By then I was already fairly comfortable with ‘Bodhi’.

From the conversations we had had over emails and chat, he actually seemed like this senior from college whom I could ring up and speak with any time.

So I dialled his number (for the first time) without giving it much or any thought this once.

A quick answer came from the other side.

He: Hello?

Me: Hey hi, is that Bodhi?

He: Ah why, wasn’t supposed to be?

Me: Haha.. No.. Hi this is Sreshtha.. From The TOI..

He: Heyi! Good to hear from you ya! What’s up?

Me: Umm.. I was actually meaning to talk with you about my CV.. Its design, etc?

You got my emails, right?

He: Oh yes.. Correct.. Your CV..

But hey, tell me one thing..

You’ve been working at the TOI for the last 6 months, right?
So how much have you saved up?

(A question I couldn’t fathom, considering it had nothing to do with the design of my CV.

Also seemed exceptionally sharp, because we were technically ‘hearing’ each other for the first time.

Plus, personally it’s not something I’d ever ask someone in a first or for that, any conversation.)

[ Pause.

And after about three and a half seconds. ]

Me: Umm.. Okay so, I think I have about 80 thousand saved in my account..

(I have NO idea why I told him. It wasn’t the most flattering amount, you know. But a part of me had already started trusting him for some joy. So I thought, heck, it doesn’t hurt.)

He: Umm.. Okay.. For 6 months, that’s not too bad actually..

But otherwise, do you have anyone in Delhi or Gurgaon whom you could bunk up with for a couple of months?

Me: Ah yes, I have my own jethu (uncle).. He works for Perfetti.. Lives in Gurgaon..

He: Fantastic! What’s his name?

Me: Chironmoy Chatterjee. He’s the National Managing Director of Sales there.

He: Is his office on the 1st floor of Global Business Park? Right outside Guru Dronacharya Metro Station? Just ask him.

Me: Ah.. I don’t really know about the office bit.. But yes, I’ll ask..

But hey, one second..

Why’re you asking me all these questions again?

I just need some help from you to design my CV dude..

Just so I can apply for an internship somewhere..

You know?
